Subject: Sony VX-1000 & AUL Lights
Carl,

I considered the Amphibico and a housing from Jay-Mar Engineering, a
small
firm in the San Pedro (30 minutes south of L.A.). However, Jay-Mar's
VX1000
housing was a tube, and larger than I wanted.

If the Amphibico is anything like my old Quest housing, the only thing
the
UW mike will pick up is bubbles from my regulator.

If you have not yet purchased a VX-1000, look very seriously at Sony's
brand
new DCR-TRV7, $2000 at B&H Photo. It has a 3" or 4" color monitor built
into
the camera. Jay-Mar makes a VERY nice housing for it. Much smaller than
VX-1000
and comparable image quality in all but the best lighting conditions.

I chose the VX1000 because it has 3-chips, the VX700 only had 1 chip.

The jury is still out on the AUL lights. I'm getting them tomorrow, and
in the
Bahamas for one week starting June 28. I am expecting great things from
these
lights, 300W for 1 hour, 500W for 40 min. That has got to be some kind
of
wonderful. Look out Digital BetaCam!
