We will get to see what the real purpose of this magazine is in the next issue: I hear that the owners are threatening to put something in the magazine in retaliation for my stance on deep air diving. They are saying I "owed them one" for the recent article they did on me, and are pissed about my criticism of deep air and those who have participated in it, both dead anbd alive. You will recall that Gillaim wrote up a ridiculous letter to me which somebody from Uwatec faxed to Bill "bird" Ostreich, whom I consider to be the single biggest stroke in dive instruction today. The idiot bird did not bother to eliminate the Uwatec fax number from the letter he reproduced and passed out at the CDS workshop, according to my lawyer. Mitch is denying that they sent this letter out. The fact is that these guys completely misquoted me, they used supposed quotes by me to try to discredit Tom Mount and IANTD, and they made me look like complete idiot in this article, which I am for having anything to do with Gilliam, and I admit it. I was trying to just let that die out and go away, including the by-mail dive instructor "award" I was givin, but Gilliam chose to resurrect this in his outburst. I had to personally call Tom Mount and assure him that those were Mitch Skaggs words, not mine ( Mitch is the one who did the interview, not the nom de plume that was used ). I can also assure all of you that anything that appears out of character for me was not me. I did not see the magazine of any of the other articles, but if what I hear about the rebreather article is true, then it is clear that this magazine is worthless, despite the efforts of Curt Bowen to do a great job, which he does for his part. If Gilliam is going to use this vehicle to promote deep air diving, Drager rebreathers, Uwatec gear and other self-serving agendas, I would suggest avoiding it altogether for obvious reasons. By the way, these guys have tried going to the WKPP sponsors to complain about us, and they were told the same thing I told them - only an idiot dives deep on air. Also, as you all know, Gilliams efforts to hurt me did no good, and would never do any good, but had they succeeded , they would have only hurt the other 93 guys, who now know what a real stand up guy Brett is ,and what TDI is really about.
