I think my instructor used a much safer method to show me the effects of
narcosis at depth.   He found a place (40 Fathom Grotto) where the
environmental conditions contributed enough to narcosis that a depth of 160
ffw was sufficient to make the point.   No deep air required !   Try it out
instructors - you can get the required air dives out of the way and move on
to the coast for another environment.   
Too expensive?   Too much trouble?   Safety has never been cheap or easy !
