Kevin,

Where do you guys dive where this is necessary, meaning you don't have
the 2 feet visibility necessary to check the paiting on the bottle ? A
light failure is out of the question since you should have between 6 and
9 lights to use, depending on the size of the team, and the probability
that none are working, would be as good as non-existent.

The room for a fuck-up is when the marking is not "permanent" enough,
meaning it's too damn easy to put the reg on the wrogn bottle when regs
are marked or labeled.

Having both regs and bottles marked is even crazier. It's like the the
parable about watches:
"A man who has one watch knows what time it is, the man who has two
watches is never sure"

Modify what George say about bottle marking to something you can feel.
The bottles are hard to screw up on becuase you look at them for a hour
while you;re mixing. The reg mouting process is 30 secs or less.

What would I do if I dove in an environment that deco was done in no-viz
?, come up with a scheme for touch-feel marking that;s INTELIGENT, and
well-thought out. Put loops of rope around the neck of the tank FOR
EXAMPLE, the less loops the higher O2 content. In that way if a loop
falls off, you won't get killed toxing, you'll just get bent. The rope
can of course also be cut away if an entanglement should occur.

But even with this scheme, the fact that other people might need to
breathe off your decobotttle, whether it's planned or not, is a big
problem. If they don't know your scheme, their fucked.

The value of my suggestion must be viewed keeping in mind I thought it
up in 2 mins. Spend a lifetime like Hogarth and it'll be good :)

My two cents, (and some pocket change too)
