We all liked Palmer, and his books make one want to go cave diving right now. You saw the quotes I used from him about this very subject, and that leaves us with the obvious conclusions: one, that like Exley, he was in violation of rule number one, and like Exley, he let the strokes in the bullshit dive "community" make his destiny through peer pressure. If Rob, who had nothing to prove, can be pressured by the deep air strokes, than what will happen with all of those who have even less validation in their own diving pecking order minds? The answer is, they die, right and left. What is amazing is that I am still a real mean guy for getting on Hall Watts' case at Tek 96. Gee, I should have been more polite. Deep air diving is drug abuse, and like drug abuse, it has physiological consequences that are permanent, like spinal cord and brain damage, and like drug or alcholol abuse, the big abusers appear to have a bigger tolerance than the casual partakers right up until they pass out umexpectedly, and drown in the case of the nitrogen abuser, and wreck their car in the case of the alchohol abuser. There is no justification for being a stroke, and all of the strokes out there can whine about me until they drop. I am praying for all of you to stay safe, and for many of you that means staying out of the water.
