WKPP will be back to scuba diving this weekend. At this dive, the guys
who supported us all night on our last dive will be doing the diving and
exploring, and we will be doing the carrying, setting up, and safety
diving. They had their choice of dives, and they took "Numero Uno",
Sally Ward Spring. This place has giant air-clear white rooms depths
from 30 feet to 310 feet, a great place logisticly to gas dive, once you
get the stuff in the cave ( the entrance is a little small ).

Rebreathers are just one thing that needed to be debunked and done
right, and we did it and discussed it. We will do a lot more of it, but
this is not cave diving for everyone, this is untethered commercial
diving, and applies to those who are trying to do difficult deep dives,
like the Europeans more than us, and our dramatic us of the equipment
answered some military questions as well. The real meat and potatoes of
the WKPP is the developemt of sound equipment , methods, and techniques.

The reason we can do things like this is our scuba diving basics: we
can dive the machine because we know we can do it on scuba, and we can
set it up for maximum safety. After all, the usdct said they could do it
"safer" than us, and we all know that unless they can dive like us, this
is not true. The other reason is our teamwork.

All diving of this type is done better as teams, and when I say "this
type", I mean any dive where redundency is thought to be needed. This
needs to be taken to a different level, and that level is consideration
of your buddy. You help buddy with tanks, you help him with not silting
him, you frame restrictions with your light and hold the line out of his
way as he comes through - this kind of consideration extends to gear.
You accomodate by diving the proper gear, and config it in a fashion
that shows you are thinking aobut the whole picture. You are an
attentive buddy who does not stress the others out by running ahead, or
not checkng them , opr not responding to signals. A good buddy will
shine his light from time to time near his buddy so he can see you are
there.

Attitude is everything in this , and a good buddy has the right
attitude about the dive. Cave diving is scary at first, but then you get
over that, and then you really start to like it. If you do not have good
buddies, this never happens. - G
