Subject: WKPP Back in Action - 3 dives

WKPP is back in business with Tallahassee clearing. We
did three dives this weekend. The first was to set up
Wakulla. Jesse Armentrout, John Rose, Derek Hagler, Bill Mee
and Wayne Head dropped safeties at 2200 and 3500 feet, and
Jarrod and I came in on rebreathers ( Halcyon ) and moved
them out to one mile ( at 285, a new US cave rebreather
record). Bottom time on the breather was 70 minutes, we did
the deco on it up through the air, 35% and 50% mixes before
removing the units and getting into the habitat. Carson,
Sellers, Chris Warner, and a bunch of others helped out, but
we were short on our usuals. To solve this problem, I met
with the Park, and we agreed that I can add and delete with
a memo, like before - we will be finding some motivated
people.

Dive two was also at Wakulla. Armentrout, Mee and Rose
added some line in B Tunnel, Rat and Wayne did the same in
C, and JJ and I cruised C and B for while on open circuit.

Rat blew some air back on top of our mix for dive three,
and we went over to the Refuge to do Sheppard Spring -
untouched by human hands for fifteen years. Hagler, Mee,
Rat, JJ and I did a complete video from the entrance,
including the gator which we could not get to move away from
our gear, to the new end of the line. Alex Hagler and Chris
Warner assisted.

This is a spectacular cave. It looks like a mini Wakulla
at the entrance, but then gets nasty for a few hundred feet
before opening into a huge going tunnel, with an upstream
and down stream, It starts at 150-180, and then drops to
200, then has the usuall drop to the normal depth, but we
stayed in the shallow 200 stuff, and added 1700 feet to the
main line ( all on video ). It is now out 4500 feet and
approaching another sinkhole on the property.

An interesting note about these dives is the deco: I
fell asleep on the first dive ( 285 for 70 ), and got bent
in the legs , which were curled up under me. This I did not
mind, but the next day I got it again, and added skin bends
where I had gotten wet ( go into the water with my drysuit
open to cool off, not too cool, but since it would only be a
300 for 30 or 40, I left it alone). On the third day, I
figured it would be tough since I was on my Sunday schedule
, so we did 200 for 90 and 110 of deco, but I came out
feeling completely restored, and the drive home was a
breeeze - go figure that one. By the way, the ridiculous
deco program called for 300 minutes deco on that dive, a
real joke. I happened to have a set of Hamilton tables in my
pocket from the Cheryl dives, and they said 110. - G

All in all a great weekend of diving, and we are ready
to crank it up for the year. I need to have all of the names
of the people we want to add to the permits so I can send
them in at one time - let me know. Also, if yo do not plan
on participating, let me know so I can remove you names,
sicne it looks pretty stupid having 80 people on the list,
and only 9 show up for a bunch of shitty dives like Wakulla
and Sheppard. Let me know. - G
