Over tightening the nut causes the shaft to back off enough for air to get past the o ring. If you look at the nut, it has a hole in it which you can line up with a hole in the shaft underneath. You can use a drift pin or drill bit to tighten or loosen. If its leaking, I would pull it apart and check the o-ring. A little lock-tight helps hold the whole thing together, but don't over tighten.
