>What is the status of "anti-tek feelings" these days. I have not been >"slumming" with the recreational crowd for over 2 years and don't know >what their opinion of the "evile-techdivers" is at this point. First of all, I wouldn't call it "slumming". When you/we start to look down on rec divers, they will (righfully so) point to tek divers as elitist snobs. Where did anyone get the idea that strong anti-tek feelings existed? I haven't seen any stream of messages in which a general consensus was formed that tek diving is bad. Of course, there will always be someone that thinks something shouldn't be done, but people will think that about recreational scuba as well as technical scuba. I believe that recreational scuba will be limited and/or restricted sooner than technical diving 'cause I think that the population in general will view rec's as everyday people diving while they'll see tekies in a more mysterious light, often with a purpose behind their diving (as opposed to just viewing the fishies). Now, as far as the recreational divers, I haven't seen much anti-tek sentiment on rec.scuba. The standard items get hashed, rehashed, and rehashed again (e.g. bouyancy control, dive destinations, touching the coral, PADI vs Naui vs SSI vs Joe Blow's Scuba School) and every once in a while techdiver gets mentioned. I think we pick up a few people on techdiver and life goes on in rec.scuba. Rebreathers get mentioned every so often and there are normally a few posts that show more how ignorant the person is about the subject than give any real information. People from techdiver that still read rec.scuba quite often jump in and correct any misinformation. -Carl-
