>I have access to "the CRC handbook" for chemical engineers & looked up a table >showing various conductive values for gasses. This table shows that, at room >temperature, argon gas will conduct 41cal/sec, air conducts about 60cal/sec, >and carbon dioxide gas conducts 35cal/sec (the lower the value - the better the >insulator). Has anyone tried CO2 gas to fill a suit? This seems to be a much >more economical solution to keeping warm... Dennis, the problem is that the drysuit is not perfectly dry. There is always going to be some moisture in there. Water + CO2 makes H2CO3, carbonic acid. While a weak acid, not in the same league with, say HCl or H2SO4, it ain't inert, and you probably don't want it on your drysuit or your skin. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
