Mike, >>I would agree with this unless of course you are diving them because you are doing training dives in weenie conditions. I'm speaking of the doubles here. Diving a less is best hogarth rig with single tanks, long hose, etc... IMO, is a good thing for any dive.<< That's of course how I started diving doubles. Doing the weenie dives to get used to the equipment. After doing that for a while I found the rig actually more comfortable than a single tank, mainly because of the stability and the added redundancy - reg freezing is always a concern here, even in Summer, below the 2nd or 3rd thermocline at 70-100 feet, depending on the lake. Below that it's usually 4C all year. I currently use double 12 l steels which weigh about 27kg with valves, not all that heavy, and they save weight on the belt, although they are not negative empty. I'll add a V-weight soon. Also, on some of our local weenie dives, doing two dives on one single 12 l tank sometimes gets me a bit low on reserves, but doing three weenies on the doubles is no problem. michael -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
