If you define it as 'less is best', you may find that for many rec dives the use of manifolded doubles would be 'unhogarthian'. But I dive a lot in cold water and like the idea of having two first stages. Of course an H-valve would accomplish the same, but I still like the in-water stability of a doubles rig. And I firmly believe in breathing the long hose and having the backup around the neck. Even for solo dives and single tanks.
