George, (hang on a sec...I'm donning my nomex suit) I completely agree that snorkels have NO place in overhead enviroments - either cave or wreck - but I do request some guidance here. I don't wear a snorkel while doing ANY overhead diving. For caverns I don't even take it with. However, up here in NE there's been more than one occasion when the snorkel somebody has carried with them has come in handy. One example - a person was on a NJ wreck dive - the diver got blown off the wreck and had to do his decom under a lift bag. By the time he surfaced, the boat was long gone. Fourteen hours later when the coast guard picked him up he was glad he had chosen to carry his snorkel tucked neatly away behind his back plate where he could get it if he wanted. It seems that with his wings on he felt more comfortable resting with his face in the water. Of course, only the snorkel would help with this. The main reason for many up here carrying a snorkel is for when they end up having to do any long surface swims or get blown off like this guy did. What do you think, is this a stroke idea or what? I'm open to suggestions and welcome your points on this. Thanks, Mitch
