Some six months ago my gf and I were all geared up for a dive at LR, just in process of locking down the car, when her burst disk gave way. That killed that dive...bummer:( As annoying however was the attitude at several dive shops I encountered when attempting to purchase spare disks (I have since doubled the disks on our tanks.) For one, it is quite hard to purchase just the disk as most shops try to sell a kit comprising the disk, spacer, and screw for around $9. In contrast, the disk by itself sells for around $2.50; still more than enough money for a teflon-coated copper disk. There is really no need, in my opinion, to further extract an additional $6.50 from a customer by only offering a kit. I eventually was able to buy just the disks... But what really got to me was that two shops (one of them was Divers Supply in Gainesville) were not even willing to sell me a kit unless they (i.e. the shop) install it at an additional $5. Their reasoning was that only their highly qualified technicians should carry out such work. Suffice it to say that I made it exceedingly clear what they could do with their kit and their business. /Matthias --- Matthias Pohl ** The Future is All Around Us Waiting in Moments of Transition, ** To be Born in Moments of Revelation. ** No One Knows the Shape of That Future or Where it Will Take Us, ** We Know Only That it is Always Born in Pain.
