 Mathias - I could not agree with you more, and you have hit upon one of the 
biggest problems in diving - officiousness. 

 In addition to that you have Sherwoodism - where they make things odd sizes, 
like the neck on a genesis tank, or the bust disks that fit into their valves 
and manifolds, so that you can have the pleasure of paying more, rather than 
buying more stuff. 

  In a proper valve or manifold, there is no special sized plug with teflon 
flared over so that to replace just the disk you need to have special tools,  
but a normal arrangement. The officious still try to charge or install, as you 
encountered, but there are ways around all of that.

   The really shitty part is that you need to spend full time dealing wtih this 
stuff to get around it, like I do, so the guy who is trying to enjoy his
weekend 
gets screwed, like you did.
