B/W vs. color on the web depends on what you're presenting, what kind
of scanning gear you have, and who your audience is. For this, I think
the best approach is to use color... thumbnails and descriptions on one
page, and click through to a high-resolution image of each of the shots.
The details are what matter here, so if you try to present everything
at once the pages will be very cumbersome -- divide the rig up into
"subsystems", first show them individually and then put the whole thing
together at the end. Markup is pretty easy too -- use Navigator Gold
or Fusion if you don't want to mess with HTML yourself or if you're not
doing anything unusual, or just learn HTML and do it yourself which is
also relatively simple if you can take the time to learn it.

I'm not the guy who mentioned I was working on a page, but in fact I
have been... The tricky part for me has been taking good pictures.
Once I have good pictures, though, scanning is no big deal. I have
access to a 35mm slide/negative scanner that's really nice -- up to
2000dpi and all the color necessary and then some. I can scan prints
too, but that's not quite as nice.

The angle I was going with was to just depict my own rig, which is
very basic. Currently, I am only Intro-certified, and diving air
with no stages, and so that's what I'd show. The site would grow
as I start doing new things. I also planned to comment on different
ways I've seen things done, and the idea behind them -- like using a
separate buckle to secure the light or not, or 1" vs. 2" crotch strap
webbing. I'm also crediting all the sources I learned from.

People are welcome to take a look at a *rough* layout that I have
up... http://www.infinet.com/~toddl/caverig/ I would welcome comments
about whether this is or isn't a good approach. I'm hoping to have a
first cut at this ready next week sometime. You need a table-aware
browser to read the "parts list", but before I'm done I would also add
an alternate version for antiquated browsers.
