Subject: knowing right from left
Forgive me if this is a "newbie" question, but...

I've noticed that in referring to the "left post" or "right post" of a
set of doubles, some people mean it one way and some the other. I've
been saying it using the orientation I'd have if I were wearing the rig
(the "left" valve could roll-off when moving forward and is where you'd
put the short hose on a Hogarthian rig), but other people say it using
the orientation they'd have when looking at the rig leaning up against
a wall or maybe putting the thing together (the opposite). I see no
reason why one means of describing is be better than the other, but it
seems like consistency would be useful.

So anyway, as far as the terminology goes... Is one way or the other
more accepted? Or does a person trying to speak clearly simply need to
define the orientation each time they talk about such things?

- Todd
