Chris. Two words: "Titanium Doorstop". Bag the heavy math - it is not needed. Use my algorithm - it is probably the most seriously tested deep stop algorithm in the world. It works. The complicated version was published in DeepTech. In a nutshell, here is the version I now recommend (this is directed at everybody, not just Chris): 1. Calculate the profile using whatever compartment-based system you are comfortable with. 2. Add a 2-minute stop at one-half the distance between your deepest depth and your initial "required" ceiling. 3. If the distance between the deep stop and your initial "required" ceiling is greater than about 30 feet, add another 2-minute stop at half the distance between your deep stop and the first "required" stop. 4. If the remaining distance is still greater than about 30 feet, keep repeating step 3 until it is not. 5. Complete your "required" deco, comfortable with the knowledge that if for some reason you have to abort or shorten your shallow stops, your probability of getting seriously bent is almost certainly less if you have done the deep stops, than if you went racing from depth to your first "required" stop. A general rule associated with this that everyone should know by now is that you should ascend as slowly from 300 feet to 250 feet as you would ascend from 50 feet to the surface. This is a no-brainer for cavers, but something that requires discipline for open-water divers. I know for legal reasons you will have to keep calculating the compartments during the deep stops, which might increase the total deco time by a minute or two (it actually often *reduces* the "required" portion of the deco). As you know, the chaotic nature of the malady renders such precision meaningless, but the lawyers and the jury won't understand that. > How important is creating a real profile with the deep stops fully > incorporated into it?? My method *is* the the one that generates the "real" profile - because it's the one that has worked in the real world. Trust me on this one - PLEASE. Aloha, Rich Oh, and by the way..... ******************************************************************* "WHATEVER happens to you when you willingly go underwater is COMPLETELY and ENTIRELY your own responsibility! If you cannot accept this responsibility, stay out of the water!" *******************************************************************
