Scott: I believe you will find that most chemical O2 generators are highly water reactive. Also they generate a fair amount of heat when activated. (Read up on the Value Jet crash in Miami). They have been in use as fire-fighting life-support systems for years. Most Navies still use them on board ship. They are referred to as OBA's, Oxygen Breathing Apparatus. I hated the damn things when I was in the service. Pain-in-the butt to use, but they did work. As a fire-fighter I still like my good-'ol SCBA. I digress. One never knows where the next technical leap will come from. I have always been interested in Cryogenic applications for diving myself. (Look in old Skindivers for a series of articles about 23 yrs ago). My .02 worth. Later, Randy Williams
