I really hate idiots that dive with 'shit' gear and pass that on to their students. Instructors like that just keep the rescue teams busy with plenty of work and help drive the cost of insurance up. If you think it's shit then you can bet the students do too. If your suits shit and you're happy with it, then the integrity of the rest of your gear is probably questionable also. If you let students see that shitty gear is all you need to dive in then you are putting out the wrong message no matter what you say. As for winning friends, fuck that. Influencing people?
