Subject: re: Diverite MLS
And here's two cents from somebody looking at it from the
pre-purchase aspect:

ARE YOU KIDDING!? Strictly from a common sense view this thing has no
business in the water! All of the "I GOT MORE DOWN TIME THEN YOU
MACHO CRAP" aside, consider these:

a. too many moving parts. Each one is a potential breakdown waiting
to happen. b. too many 'quirky' things to get it ready. Numerous
seals, making sure you turned it right, special tools, etc. c.
Twisting wires? And what's the rated life of the twisted wires?
Diverite giving out replacement sets after a given number of openings
and closings? d. Slots for straps? Hmmmmm, lots of room for
adjustment there! (NOT!) and when they do break, what then?

Look, flame the shit out of me if you like. But it doesn't take an
underwater genius to see that simplicity is better (such as one seal
versus two or three?) AUL send me their catalog. I looked over their
specs, broke them down, figured them out and.....GOLLY GEE! If it
breaks it's readily fixable! And it's so simple that the chances of
breakdown are minimal! (see where this is going?)

Then, Diverite sent me the specs on the new MLS. Did the same to
them. All I've got from it are questions - and not good ones either.

Ok, now the fuel for the inevitable flames. I haven't dove either of
them. Truth is I'm trying to figure out which to buy and don't feel
like buying both then figuring it out. So, I'm looking at it from the
mechanical aspect. The simple, durable AUL is doing a lot better in
the "it does the job it's made for" catagory while the MLS is working
towards the "I PAID TOO MUCH AND DON'T REALLY INTEND TO EVER REALLY
PUT THIS THING TO TEST catagory.

Again guys (and girls) if there is one thing you've all taught me
here: think first, buy later. Or, as we say in the machinist world:
measure twice, cut once. So.....having done that, my order goes out
tommorow for the AULs.

Thanks,
Mitch.
