started to respond to this, had wrote half a page then thought about all the bs that would come into a serious discussion and cancelled it. chris does well here, exactly what i was saying. i would expect more time on the unit would cure the problem. it's typical for this to happen on the first ten or so dives with a semi closed unit. in fact i let the divers to be walk around the pool with the first cylender cuz i know they are gonna suck up the gas pretty quick. also agree that it's hard to believe that the counter lungs in the drager were too small. i have had 300lb (three navy dudes actually, all over 6'2") on my fieno, and they did ok, couldn't close the bcd strap, but once they learned the volume size the unit worked great. the drager has much more bag room than the fienos. i'd say that again, it's just getting used to the fact that you are breathing a loop, keep in mind that the gas doesn't have to make the loop in one breath, it can go in many smaller more comfortable ones. (this was hard for me to learn and something i see in most new rebreather divers). we had many problems with the dump valve as well, it's pretty touchy to get the right setting. this is one advantage to the drager over the fieno that i see tho. (one of the few) one last thing, drager has had some problems with the flow rates, in fact in our use in the bahamas no one even had a flow meter.. very bad news when it comes to semi closed units... with different flow ports it's possible to have the wrong one plugged in for the depth you are at. (not saying that was <your> problem, but that it is a potential problem, and without a ppo2 indicator, a serious one). aloha, dp On Fri, 11 Oct 1996, Chris Hellas wrote: > In message <199610110149.BAA03507@ma*.te*.co*.au*>, troppo > <troppo@te*.co*.au*> writes > >At the risk of covering old ground, I have an observation to make on the > >Atlantis. > > > >When I dived one, I found I was causing an open circuit effect, as the > >variable volume was insufficient for my lung capacity. > > Hmmm... find that one hard to believe, but OK, what chest size (viz-a- > viz lung capacity) > > > >I found on exhalation, I was dumping gas as the bags reached capacity, then > >triggering the demand valve upon inhalation.
