> > Witness the Fieno ads tha feature a 12 yr. old Japanese girl wearing one > on her back - see? Everyone can dive a Fieno! 'Cept after they kill a > dozen or two people... so true, sorry if some of you have heard this story, but it might make what Mike is saying hit home a little harder. this is one that's gonna happen, everyone will not be so lucky as the guy i'm gonna tell you about. when i saw my first fieno two men brought it into my shop and asked if i could fill the bottles. one man was about sixty, japanese. he was the owner of the unit. his friend was his tennis instructor, american guy about forty in pretty good physical shape, the older man was not. after seeing a cert card for the unit i filled two bottles. the tennis pro was an open water certified (padi) diver, and had alot of questions about nitrox and tek diving, i told him i didn't know shit but gave him george's email address (sorry, couldn't resist). :-) two days later the american came back with one of the bottles to be refilled. he told me that the older man got sick on the boat and didn't want to dive, so he jumped in to try it... 90 feet for 20 minutes, pretty good current and three foot swells. he said he didn't like it too much cuz it made him feel like he wasn't getting any air. this is <<one>> of the ways we are gonna see people die on rebreathers, people will buy them as toys, won't like them or will get bored of them, or wont' have time to dive and will let their friends "try 'em out". don't guess there's alot anyone can do about that tho. makes me think of all the deaths on oc here in hawaii, friends taking uncertified buddies diving, or the five people that have died in the lava tubes at sharks cove.. all only openwater certified. just my 3 cents worth.. dp
