Why reinvent the wheel?  Why not just purchase one?  

When we made our SS plates in 1992 it was because Dive Rite only made them in
ABS and Aluminum and we wanted the weight (we dive in saltwater). But unless
you are making significant changes to the design why go to the trouble?
