Peter Heseltine replied: You are correct that "locals" usually do not take malaria prophylaxis. In part this is because they have had prior infections and develop some limited immunity to many strains of the parasite. ***************** Peter, my mistake, by "locals" I was actually referring to the expats, who are either permanent residents or are there for a stint. It consensus among many of the expats is that "social" consumption of alcohol prevents malaria. ;) Social drinking is defined as 10 plus cans of beer, per weekday, more on weekends. (Real beer, 5%, not American swine vasser). troppo
