I already agree, but I can see where Scott is coming from too.

Personally, the risk of not being able to verify tank psi is greater than the
risk of having an hp hose go BOOM.

If only George would publish operating procedures and standards. <sigh>

Speaking purely as a wreck diver, SPG's on deco tanks are a waste of time. You
don't have to be a genius to see why, but I will spell it out for the slow
ones.

First, you need to check the contents of your deco tank pre dive, and be near
the tank from that point onwards. Any leaks or reductions in pressure will then
be blatently obvious to to even the most henious of strokes.

All good wreckdivers will have the valve shut off, once the lines have
sufficient pressure to prevent water intrusion. Thus there will be no loss of
gas from the original pressure unless: your burst disc fails, or your tank
valve fails. Either way, you are no better off if you have a SPG. And as some
of you know, the burst discs should be blocked.

If your reg fails when you switch it on, well you either breath using the tank
valve, or change regs. There should be at no stage any serious loss of gas.

As too waiting for George to tell you how it's done, well he would be the first
to admit the right way is always the easy and obvious way, and once seen or
described, needs no explanation.

BTW, if you must use a SPG, you will find they screw straight into the 1st
stage, so you need no hose at all. Tape replaces an o-ring, not exactly kosher
on non tapered threads, but works. Any leak will be minor, and insignificant
compared to a blown o-ring. I only recommend it for use on surface regs.
