I can still see some white patterns, but these may just be scratches that will fill with water. From what Marv says, it sounds like I ought to at least try it underwater before I go to extreemes. It turns out that I'm seeing my endodontist tomorrow afternoon, I'll ask about acrylic polishing compounds (thanks Jeff). He's also an underwater photog. so I'm sure he'll oblige. Richard, thanks for the tip on the hydrogen. I would have used butane. Anyway, thanks to all for your help.
