=46irst, let me fan the treasure/archeology flame wars a bit with the=
 following quote by Robert Marx:

"To date in the western hemiphere, not one single underwater archeological=
site has been found by a so called "qualified" archeologist.

Interesting point, isn't it?

Second, Jim Adams:jimadams@uh*.uh*.Ha*.ed* said awhile ago:

I was recently horrified when I was in Kwajalein last month. A "wreck"
diver was showing me the Japanese wrecks from WWII. We discovered a new
wreck, a small Japanese landing craft. As I was documenting the wreck
with my video, I turned and saw him chopping away the wood deck to see
if anything of "value, like a bell" was below it. ...ect........

I have two questions for you Jim....first: Usually wood deteriorates quickly=
in sea water due to rough seas, bacteria, and teredo worms... unless it is=
buried under certain kinds of sediment, or in very deep, cold, and/or=
sheltered water. What were the conditions where this craft was located=
(depth, temp, cove, ect)? Do the Japanese have a marine-wood laquer or=
preserve that they used on the craft that would preserved the crafts' wood?

Second: You are, I would safely guess, an expert concerning the Arizona=
memorial...Do you know if diving is allowed at all on it?... or whos=
permition you would need, what influence your title/status/purpose for=
wanting to dive it has, and how difficult it is to get it? (and yes I=
realize that obviously no penetration/artifact removal would or should ever=
 be allowed.)

I was also curious what the autopsy report said....And whether he was=
wearing a full face mask and if we would be positively buoyant if=
unconscious. (i.e. He drops a hand held weight that is making him=
 negatively buoyant)

And well, here's my minimal 2 cents concerning prior questions...

>Heres a question to think about for all those idle people out there!!
>You look over the side of the ship and spot a diver 7m below you, as you
>observe him you notice that he is motionless ( and no he is not a photo-
>grapher), and that his breathing is eratic.

I know the question has been beaten to death, but there's one more point I=
think has been missed (also mentioned above). If he is using a standard=
mask and scuba mouthpiece, then I would say you should stay where you are=
and observe awhile. In most cases where a diver loses consciousness he=
also loses his regulator as the jaw muscles relax. I don't know how you=
can determine clearly that a divers breathing is erratic at 7 meters in=
medium vis. If the question is meant to ask - do you risk the possibility=
of DCS in order to save another divers life, then I would agree with all of=
the other divers who answered - yes, absolutely.

That might work, but I would hesitate to try it if the current is flowing=
out to sea. Otherwise you might be blue water diving in a hurry..
