George, you are right. For deep dives, I know basically what the deco is
going to be without computer and tables.

One nice feature of the Desert Star computer is it's "look forward"
feature. During a dive, you can ask it for deco information if you went
deeper (in 10 foot increments) and/or longer, what would the stops/times
be. Other features are navigation and communication. Using surface
transponders and a long baseline, the unit can be used to map a reef or
wreck easily. Simply swim around the feature and press a button at short
intervals to fix your position and "draw" a diagram of the feature.
Download the data after a dive into laptop and you have the map. The sonar
function can communicate with a surface station for two-way messages and
instructions. It's better than reading a book for long deco hangs.

On dives where appropriate I can manually increase pO2 as necessary. BTW,
I really like Decomm a lot and use it on every dive. The tables are very
easy to memorize and once you do a dive, you can do it again without
tables and computer- unless you change horses in mid-stream. Even then, I
can intuit the deco. Rod
