I know some people that use the air x and some other remote trans units. The air x is still a comp after you lose the trans (for what ever reason) and is as accurate as anything else for a bottom timer.-But,think this thru-the cost is over $700 U.S. and the only function that it does has that makes it different than most comps is the computer interface(which is nice if you are mapping or looking to plan step-by-step mix dives). I don't think the interface equip is included in the purchase price. So, if you look at the possible failure of a hard fixed item to the first stage, the loss of tank info, and only air computation-all versus price, then maybe a used bridge II w/interface might do what you want except for digital psi. The remote units do fail and are very funny when it comes to adjusting deco due to consumption rates and temp. I don't like them and would just go with a basic Buhlmann algorithm air comp for fun dives as well as a timer for mix(nitrox or He), of course that just my opinion, I could be a stroke-EZ
