Bill, Rod believes that I should stick with the mouthpiece and avoid the FFM until I have enough hours on the unit, and lots of experience. This is good, sound advice, which I have not followed, since all of my O/C diving is done with a FFM. My partner and I produce underwater films, and found that u/w communications has helped us in the past. That is why both he and I bought Widolf masks (like Rod). On this point, I have been (admittedly) hard headed, since (once I get all the bugs worked out) I want to dive FFM all the time with the rebreather. Until now, I have felt that I should be building experience with the set-up that I intend to dive all the time. However, I have done enough experimenting to see that as long as I want my cake and eat it too (i.e. diving a FFM and keeping my beard), I'm going to have problems. So, I am following Rod's advice and going back to basics - I have a great set of hoses and mouthpiece (AGA, BTW). My partner, John, seems to be quite happy with the Cressi Sub FFM on his rebreather, but I am going to forgo experimentation with that arrangement until I get some more time on my unit with the standard hoses and mouthpiece. The difference between open circuit FFM's and closed circuit is like night and day. The mask seal becomes (for me, at least) the primary focus. I love the AGA in o/c because (if I need to) I can reach in there with my finger and scratch my nose, or rub my eye, and only bubbles comes out. That doesn't fly with c/c... I'll keep posting my experiences with the CCR so others can hopefully learn through my mistakes - but Rod is the dude to go to for good, experienced information. Now if I can just get him to stop acting like my 4' 11" Italian mother... Kevin HeyyDude
