according to PADI standards and I quote

-"At some point prior to student certification, the instructor must
document that the student has completed a 200 yard CONTINUOUS surface swim
and a 10 min survival swim/float w/out using MFS or any other swim aid".-

Jeff,

Please please please Call Quality assurance @ PADI
ph# 1 800-SAY PADI

B4 this chick shows up to do a dive with me in hawaii, dies, and her family
sues me for taking her out.

(or she sues me for not taking her out under the Americans with
Disabilities Act because she is CERTIFIED and I am disriminating against
the obese.)

BTW, she won't get her card revoked, but he will have a bunch of paperwork
to deal with.

On second thought, you and all others in the class should call that number
and really make him relize he is not teaching in a vacum.

aloha
