Sit in on an OW course > sometime (not that they are all bad; but this was downright > frightening). This is also not an agency bashing either (final > instructor does YMCA certs too, so not a PADI wimp). Reality check. 1) This is the United States of America, where the bottom line reign supreme. No other single consideration shall be allowed to cloud people's judgement. After all, it's people's wallets who's at stake there. 1a) So, no one cares if the blimp is water-good. No one gives a shit. Think of all the PADI shareholders who are entitled *BY LAW* to the fattest return on their investment in PADI shares. This is *FAR MORE* important than whether the blimp kills herself. 1aa) If the blimp kills herself, think of the lawyers who have to make a living in suing whoever happens to pass by, and also those lawyers who have to defend the people sued before. It's all part of the american econogy. 1b) Think of the poor dive shop owner who has trouble making ends meet with his paltry 200% markup on gear (and it's becoming harder and harder to sell useless gear, as people are seemingly getting smarter and ask for data on the Internet) and the resulting need to have as much people hit the water as possible. He's also *ENTITLED* to the fattest bottom line, in part to pay for his lawyer who's busy fending-off lawsuits. 2) Diving is fun. Why bother people with useless skills like mask clearing, bass inflating or the like? 3) Confront directly the instructor, preferably in the company of another instructor/experienced diver you trust. Or have your stepson put in another class with another instructor; remember, the instructor mades all the difference. ----------------- Pour la Republique Francaise du Quebec ----------------- The greatest threat to democracy comes when the accountants are taking charge: they will tend to implement "one dollar=one vote". ~~~ Last dive: The Flintkote quarry in Thetford Mines with 20m viz. ~~~ This .sig is illegal in the states, because it contains a dirty word.
