Lance, the commmercial straps that used to come with the regs can be made from a tire innertube, but I use surgical tubing and put it on the reg with the same tie wrap that holds on the mouthpiece. I do not konw waht kind of PADI wisdom is driving that unsafe comment, but you can see that you wer dealing with a moron. The dive industry created the reg-holder mentality , and teh "octopus" reg. The obvious way is to breath the "octo", and have your backup around your neck. I gues it is too difficult for the dive shop wizzzrds to giure how to put the high performance reg on the "octo" hose and the low perfomance onthe shorter hose around the neck.
