I agree with you. I think the whole caustic thing was from the days when lithium, or some other non-water tolerant material was the only game in town. I'm pretty sure the USN used mostly lithium (someone correct me), so I think they had good reason to fear the "cocktail". However, I think Sodasorb and Sofnolime and other similar stuff is so benign that the "caustic cocktail" fear can be pretty--much laid to rest. That's not saing that a total loop flood is no big deal - wet scrubber won't work right so in the rare event of a major flood, you'd still have to bail on OC. But I don't think you have to worry as much about the "caustic" part.
