Subject: SeaPro Brass Inflators

Just thought I'd post this in case there is anyone out there with one of
these gems...

While on a 160' dive this weekend off of San Diego, my dive buddy was
cruising around the Posideon Missile Launcher that is sunk there when
suddenly he heard a loud "hissing" sound.

Since he was wearing a buddy phone on his left ear (so he could listen to
me ramble on), he assumed it was static - that is, of course until he
noticed that he was rocketing to the surface.

Turns out, the SeaPro brass inflator on his B.C. decided to suddenly open
independent of his pushing the button.

By the time he figured it out, he launched out of the water like a Posideon
missle himself, from 157 feet. He had about 20 mins. on 15/50 mix.

He got to the boat, and we got his B.C. off, and sent him back down the
line with 2 deco bottles, and he was fine: A bit pissed off, but fine
nonetheless.

This guy has a lot of diving experience, and in one of the more
knowledgeable mixed gas divers I have met, but just like Geo's bladder
giving way, shit sometimes does happen.

I dunno how many of you might have these inflator valves, but you should
check them out. He's going to be replacing all of his post haste.

And for all you WKPP dudes, this guy dives (from what I can tell)
"Hogarthian" with the possible exception of the SeaPro inflator. If it
turns out that only strokes dive with Brass SeaPro Inflator valves, then
that makes me a "plastic stroke", since I have the SeaPro model myself,
only in plastic.

Thought you'd like to know...
