Whilst I hate to halt the degenerative slide of this topic ... Over this side of the world you can get a thing called an "Aqua Slate" (I think) which is a slate with a large plastic pencil attached - designed just for divers. Inside it has a large graphite core (about 6mm) which is probably just one of those woodless pencils mentioned earlier. It telescopes out to give more lead as it wears. I have used one for a year and never had to sharpen it. The overall pencil is about the dimension of a whiteboard marker so is good for use with gloves on. If anybody is interested I could get the distributor details, I think it is made in Australia. Just one problem, it is slightly positive so would need correct weighting for serious divers. Guy.
