Probably some mythology that valves could freeze
on if left hard against the stops. Can't see
how it could happen, probably the reverse effect
on the mechanism when the pressure is reduced.

Having seen a well intentioned buddy turned OFF
a trimix divers doubles when checking them, and
having to turn them on again for him at 20m, I
have a simple rule ... 

"touch my valves and loose your hand ..."
