Well, let's nitpick a bit more (although I agree with the above). The old J-Valve was nothing short than a 1/4 turn valve, wasn't it? Now, to kitbash more (and hang myself with techno rope), why not put a dashpot along the valve to make sure it is opened slowly, and (more rope) have a ratchet mechanism so the dashpot does not prevent the valve from being closed rapidly (like in case of a free-flow)???
