George, I have no doubt that in the UK and USA, manufacturers of industrial gas maintain standards. Alex' comments were very useful to me, as I have *no* experience with industrial gas standards. I have lived and do dive in parts of the world where I suspect industrial standards don't mean quite as much as they may in countrys with the luxury of big suppliers and big users. (No pun intended) A very small amount of CO added to your fill (much less than 1%) makes a very big difference to your dive. This has been known to happen from dive shop fills in out of the way places. It just occurred to me that the industrial supply might not be tested for CO at a concentration of 5-10 parts per thousand, because it wouldn't make much difference to a welder. If I'm wrong - I'm wrong and that's great; just one more thing I don't have to worry about. But I'll still be using my CO meter on dive shop and whatever gas I breathe, whenever I'm overseas and/or in a location where I am unfamiliar with their standards. And yes, I know you can say I shouldn't be diving there, but that's my dive shop monkey and I'll pet him if I want to ;-) Peter On Tue, 25 Jun 1996, George M.
