used similar systems by this company.. very rugged, blew up (or in) a set
that was rated for 300fsw at 388fsw (dropped the camera ahead of us down the
line so we didn't have to carry it, the depth recorder on the boat was off
by about 15%, typical in our experience but i forgot).. we stopped at our
mod (330fsw) was on the way back up when the lights went... whew, glad we
were 80 feet away.. they lasted about five minutes before implosion, i under
stand the canisters are built better now and you can order units for depths
of up to 600 or more feet. i was using two 200watt bulbs. really very nice
equipment. they replaced the unit within three days... and that includes
the shipping.. the lights would produce clear light for over twenty minutes.
then they dropped off quickly to a yellow color. the gates housings are
indeed bullit proof as there were minor scratches on the housing from the
plexiglass. used the same (replacement) system in a cave on kauai to 70ffw,
it flooded in the first ten minutes of the dive, since we had two other
backups each we continuted to use the light, it worked perfectly for almost
an hour, flooded completely, and still works today.

aloha,
