The regulator I was referring to was a used one I bought from a friend of
mine five or six years ago.  It had a Sherwood second stage, so I assumed
it was also a Sherwood first stage.  I dug it out last night and looked at
it - the knob is a Sherwood knob, but I can't say for certain that the
regulator was made by Sherwood. The other reason I was inclined to think
it was a Sherwood is that the last time I went to buy replacement
diaphragms for my Oceanic regs, my supplier was out but he said the 
"Sherwood" ones were the same size.  Maybe I mis-heard him?
