For the record, I'm not Mark Silverstein - Joel's infamous brother ;-),
so most of your post is wasted on me. I'm Mark Welzel.
I'm a regular on the boats on Long Island having crewed for
everyone's pal Sal on the Sea Hunter for a few years, spent some
time on Sea Scrapes boat in the beginning and now I'm on the
Adventuress. From my point of view, some of the other mates
and the customers I talk to, all this nonsense *seems* to
be bickering between rivals.
I don't know the real score, what I do know is that every time you
have a chance you blast ANDI/Ed/Island. I am not trying to drag
JD into any of this, I just figured he has been your source of info. If
your posts were more informative instead trashing your point might
be well made. About agencies in general, I'm not alone in thinking
them all shysters, come on, 3 separate courses to learn Nitrox?
What's next, snorkel clearing?
As for the original post - are you saying that ANDI's procedure of
not using 100% O2 for partial pressure fills is wrong? Or are you
saying that you witnessed ANDI personnel filling bottles with
100% O2 that were winding up with less than 50/50 ?
My %.002, I think in theory NOT using 100% O2 is smart. Your
danger is under pressure, at temperature with 100% O2. So if
you cannot be CERTAIN of the condition of a tank(and you know
as well as I that you can't), and you are running
a fill station, don't fill to less than 50% with 100% O2

I've made this public mail so Mark Silverfishes name gets cleared.
And no, my size 13 W's don't fit in my mouth - but I'm trying.

Mark Welzel
I'm not one of your deep diving guru's, I'm just the asshole they
grapnel the wreck with.

To everyone on this list-I openly apologize to you for having to read this
garbage. My future correspondence regarding this matter will be kept to
private E-Mail to those parties involved.

Mark, You just put your foot in your mouth. Sorry you decided to get
involved
with this one. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

If Island Scuba/ANDI HQ practiced what it preached Mark, there would be no
discussion here. That is my point. ANDI HQ should be abiding by its own
standards, period. I am not arguing that they are wrong or right, just that
they do not practice what they preach. They should be setting an example. So
should I , and perhaps this post is not a good example-but you threw the
first stone here.

I have no grudge against Island scuba, nor do I fear competition-you of all
people should know that. Did you forget when Island Scuba needed DUI dry
suit
underwear for a customer of theirs, but could not get it?????? Who did you
call to get it since you were not a DUI dealer??? I believe it was ME who
sold Island scuba the underwear, simply as a courtesy to you and Island
Scuba.
I would not do that for a competitor, nor would you have helped me out on
occasion.

And why would I allow you Mark to send your regulators to my store to have
them overhauled????.If I really hated Island Scuba, and really had a grudge,
and really felt there was competition, there would be a big sign in my
store
that states:

"Island Scuba Centers Manager has his regulators serviced at The Scuba
Depot. Does he not trust his own technicians at ANDI HQ/ISLAND SCUBA
CENTERS?????"

Mark, who does ANDI's TRAINING for service technician down their?????Why
didn't you let him/her service your regs????????

I would do that to a competitor.

You stated to me Mark, and I quote, " That JD worked for Island filling
tanks
has nothing to do with ANDI. If JD didn't abide by ANDI procedure - then HE
is
wrong, maybe even Island Scuba but not ANDI."

Leave JD out of this. My information comes from my own interactions at
Island, as well as with customers. If I used information that JD has, look
out ANDI.

You said:

>"Bob, I for one would like to see these personal attacks curbed. If you
>have something informative to add there are a great many people
>interested in what you have to say, otherwise it's going to be hard
>for many to take you seriously."

Here is a question that you, or Stuart, can answer for all of us. I know
that
ANDI HQ is located in the same house as Island Scuba Centers. Both ANDI and
Island Scuba Centers are owned by Ed. There is no physical distinction
between the two. If, and I again quote you, "ANDI has no fill station
there
and no technicians as Stuart pointed out", then how does ANDI train people
as
fill technicians, blenders and repair technicians at HQ??? And don't tell me
that Island rents its fill station to ANDI during courses, and that it is
okay during an ANDI course to recommend one thing, then two minutes later as
Island Scuba do another. What kind of a message does that imply???? How can
we take YOU SERIOUSLY??????

If ANDI believes my attacks are personal, I'm sorry. I do not consider them
attacks. I answered a post. If it were an attack and I had a grudge, believe
me, you would know it. I would attack without provoke, constantly. There are
a good number of quality ANDI members/Instructors out here along with the
other agencies. I am in no way attempting to discredit them. All agencies
have good and bad. And I have criticized all agencies on this forum. You
just
don't read them. So ANDI should not take this or any of my previous (two or
three, wow, some attack) posts as an attack.

You should have kept this private to me if you had something to say.

The gloves are off Mark. And remember, you threw the first punch.

Raimo.
