(at the moment I fear I may be stumbling around with the >clueless) Most new divers take a PADI openwater course. In this course, divers are not taught the math involved nor the physiology of tissue gradients. This means that most new divers have no concept of the basic mathematical or physiological parameters that is the foundation for nitrox. There is no magic here either-it easy and straight forward. I could teach a good diver the information needed to dive nitrox safely in under an hour. Nitrox is all academic. No new diving skills are required to dive nitrox providing the diver already knows how to dive and control his buoyancy. If you can dive and breathe at the same time, you can dive nitrox.
