You want an honest answer to your question about what Genesis tanks are
good for, besides nothing?

Forget technical diving for a second. I know this list is about
technical diving, but forget technical diving for a second, and think
about rec diving for a moment.

The Genesis tanks have four things in their favor:

-. they're compact.

they're small enough to stow in large samsonite luggage. this is
       useful, if you're a travel-happy, cost-conscious, weenie diver.
my wife and I each took a tank in our luggage on a trip to the
Pacific Northwest last summer. pack soft gear around the tanks,
and your bag is less than 70 lbs net. don't tell the airlines that
you're carrying scuba gear, and they probably won't ask. $70, or
whatever the airlines charge for oversize gear, is $70, and you can
pay for a tank quickly for what the airlines will charge you.

-. they're compact.

the 104's sound like great tanks, and I intend to look into buying
them (if I can) when I buy tanks again, but I'm not handicapped,
like my wife. I'm 5'8", and I'm in reasonably good condition.
my wife, who's had back problems, is 5'. Aluminum *80's* make her
uncomfortable. The Genesis HP 80 is the first 80 that she's loved
       to wear.

you must remember that not everyone is built like Tarzan.

-. they're steel

the tanks' buoyancy characterstics, as weak as they are compared with
the 104's, are far better than any aluminum tank that I've used.

-. they're steel

I've never been in a recreational dive shop that rents steel tanks.
far easier to schlepp your own while on vacation, and far cheaper,
       too.

No, George, I'm not stupid enough to argue with an expert. It's important
to remember, though, that there are different tools for different
purposes--and I'll buy sushi for anyone--including you--who's persuasive
enough about the merits of double 104's to talk my wife into using double
104's for rec diving.
