Don't stop now, give us more information. I've been making sure I take = my vitamins at least a couple of days before I make a dive. They are of = the antioxidant variety. I hope this wont end up being a problem. Robert Chambers Barbados West Indies. ---------- From: John Gibbons[SMTP:jgibbo@ph*.lo*.ac*.uk*] Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 1996 1:10 PM To: techdiver@terra.net Subject: Free radicals in Biology and Medicine I came across a good book for those peole who really want to get down to = the nuts and bolts of what oxygen does to mammalian organisms. This book = is=20 not for the faint hearted but does give a comprehensive account of what=20 free radicals are involved in.=20 Its title is: Free radicals in Biology and Medicine 2nd ed. 1989, = published=20 by Oxford University press, Author Halliwell and Gutteridge.=20 It is now seven years out of date but would be good for those interested = in=20 O2 tox. It had a nice little section on the possible adverse effect of = high=20 concentrations of Vit C for those folks who like to overindulge. In the=20 presence of H2O2 it can produce hydroxyl radicals via the Fenton = reaction=20 (depending on conc. and a few other factors)and can stimulate iron=20 dependent peroxidation of lipids. Just thought someone might be interested. J Gibbo John M. Gibbons 0171-793-1101 Home Univ.
