The local Poseidon techs (the staff at Tam Dive, Toronto, Canada) use
silicone oil (the stuff is labelled food-grade for some reason) in the
caps. The vodka bit sounds a bit ULish to me, although it is quite
possible that a wide range of liquids would get the job done, and that
various individuals choose their favourite when recommending something.

Folklore claims that the original Canadian Navy antifreeze caps consisted
of condoms filled with Crisco brand cooking oil and placed over the end
of the reg. Sort of gives a new meaning to "safe diving".
