No, he's not talking about the infamous Transformer Pack; there was a ship named the Transpac, a 180' commercial vessel that pulled a bonehead manouver in front of another ship, between an island and the mainland near the north end of the British Columbia coast. The bottom there drops at a 70 degree (as in 20 degrees shy of vertical) angle from the surface to 1000', and the Transpac's stern came to rest on a narrow ledge at 300', with the bow at 122'. Reg is director of IANTD Canada, and he led the Transpac '95 expedition up there last summer; they located the wreck, did quite a bit of diving, and brought back lots of slides and video. Maybe the audience at Shipwrecks '96 was already a bit used to seeing tech gear after watching Gary Gentile and friends dive the Lusitania, but what seemed to impress people the most was the commercial vessel being used as a diveboat; it had no ladder, but instead used a hydraulic lift to bring divers back up out of the water. Anyway, the "Transpac 96" subject line suggests that Reg is going back, and anyone interested in joining him might want to write to him at the above address. -- Anthony DeBoer http://www.onramp.ca/~adb/ adb@he*.re*.or* (here) adb@ge*.co* (work) #include "std.disclaimer"
