tim i'm not sure if there's any legal requirement or even if there's an established protocol but at my store in se florida we won't fill any tank that either has no burst disc or a disc assembly we know to have been tampered with - double discs etc. i have always been under the impression (quite possibly wrongly) that the burst disc was a dot requirement and that therefore it would be unwise if not a violation to fill a tank without one. since i've yet to hear of a diver being killed by a tail failure but every year hear of a number of dive store fill techs dying that way most dive stores now are becoming very wary of doing anything less than right. i'd be very interested to hear if there is in fact any legal requirement as regards the burst disc issue regards tony phillips
