A lot of these competitive freedivers will spend 8 hours in a day trying to 
get that perfect fish.You have to train to get this kind of endurance, and I 
think bringing some Powerbars or other types of energy foods , and 
electrolyte drinks would be a no-brainer. Calories would be similar to a 16 
mph bike ride 8 hours long (lower heart rate, but core temperature 
maintanence would push calorie burn back up).
You could definitely burn some fat!

So far I just try to use big slow kicks, and "sleep my way down". Terry Maas 
will be out here in about a month and a half, and I hope to learn alot from 
him in the freedive seminar he will be putting on.  Your right about the 
efficiency of body position though---there is nothing like freediving to 
exagerate the need for perfect body positions.

I will be doing a big story on this in SFDJ, with plenty of photos to show 
what we are talking about.
